Perception makes one “seem” rich. We all have perceptions learned or ingrained in us since youth that makes us perceive the world around us with certain views. Good or bad, right or wrong, rich or poor are all perceptions we have learned. Media has influenced a lot of what we perceive now, but there was a time that these influences came from our parents.
Perceptions can also bring about an attitude based on what you see which can be false. For instance when a person sees someone dressed in fancy clothes and they can observe that they have taste; however, what if someone else picked out their clothes for them. They still think that the person has taste.
I have built a perception for years, yet no one knew it unless they were privy to my private life. You see, people would walk into my home and be amazed at the beauty of it, while at the same time throwing off their shoes in fear they would mess up my perfect house. I would have to assure them that they were okay and I wondered why they acted that way. You see they perceived that we were rich and that our stuff was expensive. They looked around not knowing that all my items and furnishings were carefully selected over time and chosen to fit my style. We decided to homeschool our children and have always been a one-income family.
The same thing happens when someone looks at a house for sale; they look around and make judgments based on what they see. If it looks dirty and cluttered, they wonder if the house was taken care of. If there are bushes and weeds growing up around the air conditioning unit, they wonder if it was maintained. If the house has pets in it, they wonder if there are hidden stains under the furniture or whether they will need to clean or even remove the carpets. If the house smells funny they will spend all of their time trying to identify the smell and wondering where it is coming from or if it can be removed. All are perceptions whether they are based on fact or not.
What can make your house better than the ones selling down the street? Believe it or not, it is the perception people receive when the house has been properly prepared. From the moment the sellers first looked at the MLS pictures on the internet to the moment they walked into the house; home staging provides the wow that makes the buyers aspire to want to live there. The first impressions will set the perception as to how the rest of the house will be viewed. By making positive first impressions the buyer will look for other positive aspects for reinforcement until the buyer reaches a point where he can see himself and his belongings in your house. Make your home the buyer’s dream.
Walk into a beautiful home and it almost speaks the word – money. And when you are selling your house in Lebanon, TN remember perception translates to money in your pocket.
